Vendors love one word: predictive. Operators need four — and the discipline to pick the right one per campaign.
Power dialing
One outbound line per ready agent. The agent is committed when the dial starts. Abandon risk approaches zero. Talk-time efficiency is lower because agents wait through rings and AMD. Best for: small teams, high-value accounts, regulated conversations, training cohorts.
Progressive dialing
The system dials when an agent is available (sometimes with light automation). Preview variants show the record first. Still agent-tied; excellent for quality-led outbound.
Predictive dialing
The system dials ahead of agent free moments using connect-rate and handle-time forecasts. Live answers are bridged to the next free agent. Highest talk-time potential; non-zero abandon risk. Needs enough concurrent agents and clean AMD to be honest.
Hybrid dialing
A pacing matrix that can run near power when the floor is small or abandon is hot, then raise toward predictive when capacity and compliance allow. Circuit breakers snap back to 1:1 when abandon approaches the ceiling. This is how blended BPOs stay productive across a shift without a human rewriting dial levels every fifteen minutes.
Decision table
| Situation | Prefer | |---|---| | < 8–10 ready agents | Power / progressive | | Fresh list, unknown connect rate | Start progressive; unlock predictive after samples | | Abandon near ceiling | Force 1:1; investigate AMD and list quality | | Inbound ASA breached | Cut outbound capacity; do not raise ratio | | High-value retention book | Preview / progressive | | High-volume collections / telesales | Hybrid or predictive with hard ceiling |
Why VoxLink insists on honest labels
Calling paced-progressive “AI predictive” confuses buyers and trains supervisors to expect abandon profiles the engine cannot deliver. Clear mode names plus live ratio / abandon charts create trust — and trust is what renews multi-year BPO contracts.
